If you consider to adopt a pet please check our website. At the moment we have more than 20 puppies in need of a new home. Some of them have to stay in horrible conditions and their survival chances are low if they will not be adopted asap.

For example there are seven five to six week old babies, they where already dumped out, a lady found them, brought them to the police and we were able to locate their "owners". Due to lack of foster homes (there is no shelter) we had to bring them back to their mother - she is a black Grand Dane mix.

There are also 6 puppies, 2 month of age (born 01. of December), that need a home. Their mom is German Shepherd mix, she was dumped out pregnant and only skin and bones. A Nica guard found her, took her in and the family is taking care of them. They will keep the mother. As they cannot afford, we are supporting them with food, deworming and spaying the mother dog. Cute little babies, they re doing great - worth a look. Please have a look at our website: www.costa-rica-live.com/AnimalesAtenas/Adopciones.html and send me an email

The Atenas Foundation for Helping Abandoned Animals was able to spay/neuter 423 animals in 2009 and find homes for a few hundreds, too (I m still on our yearly report). As well we are going to schools with our animal welfare education program. We want to thank everybody who helped us making this possible!!!

To continue sucessfully in future, we need volunteers. Do you want to join us in our efforts?

Thanks and regards, Sylvia

Fundación Tayutic is deeply convinced that the people of Costa Rica, and of the Americas in general, need to recover the knowledge of our native ancestral cultures. We are determined to work toward this end through the programs of Fundación Tayutic, by both working for the renovation of important pre-Columbian archaeological sites such as Monumento Arqueológico Nacional Guayabo, and by working to improve the quality of life of our indigenous neighbors, with due respect for their beliefs and knowledge.

There are many foundations dedicated to rescuing our natural wealth and ecology, but Fundación Tayutic is the first and only institution in Central America devoted to rescuing our pre-Hispanic cultural wealth. The important archaeological sites, and the artistic and cultural achievements, of the pre-Columbian people of Costa Rica, have much to teach us about our development, as well as care for our environment and our social interactions.

We invite you to join us in this effort through your contributions to Fundación Tayutic and its programs, now principally focused on the renovation of Monumento Nacional Guayabo. We are working closely with the Costa Rica government’s Interinstitutional Commission for the Renovation of Monumento Nacional Guayabo to assist the government in its efforts to provide the resources and staffing necessary to achieve this important work.

For more information about how you can help, please contact Fundación Tayutic’s volunteer Executive Director -

* the number one request from any not-for-profit organization is money (it's how they survive) For a $20.00 donation you can take the tour and see an incredible assortment of birds!
There are so many needs other than money as you will see listed on the web site - here are a few...
*** Urgent**** Good Home for a dog and/or dog food. What started out as a few guard dogs has turned into about 20 dogs that have been rescued and are cared for by the workers & volunteers.
* People to help/assist the one gardener they already have. Additional help is needed to grow more food.
* Fruits and vegetables- extra from your gardens you don't use, please considering giving to the birds.
*Calcium tablets are always a must. They can be hard to find and very expensive here. If you have someone coming into Costa Rica maybe they can bring a bottle or two of calcium tablets.  1-30-09

We're El Puente - The Bridge, operating in Puerto Viejo de Talamanca in Costa Rica.  Our goal is to help people help themselves to self-sufficiency.

We're working with families who were originally living the U. N.definition of "Extreme Poverty" - earning less than $1 a day - and helping them grow out of that into self sufficiency. We're helping them do it for themselves.

At the same time as we help families "bridge out" into our culture, we're also helping those who are working to preserve and protect the Bribri culture, with assistance in preservation of knowledge of medicinal plants, Bribri language materials, and more.

We exist primarily on donations. Your donations help with school expenses, food costs, and more that enables us to meet our goals here.  We operate through a 501 (c) (3) non-profit in the USA, so any donations are tax deductible.

Please take a moment and read Helen's story about her trip to the Cabecar Reservation. ‘samjjana’ is a Sanskrit word, meaning a ceremony for harmony and unity - which visiting Australians Maia and Sahayak offer through rare musical instruments as they bring a unique entertainment experience to Costa Rica. At a time when many people are feeling stressed and uncertain, this music has a profound and soothing effect on audiences.

Maia plays the ‘Hang’ - an enchanting, ethereal-sounding instrument that speaks to the heart. Both its appearance and sound tends to ’stop people in the street’ and it has been described as 'raindrops from heaven' and 'for this world, but not of this world'.

Sahayak plays single and drone (double) Native American Indian flutes, which encapsulate the connection the Native American Indians have with Spirit and nature. Their haunting sounds rise from the depths and touch the soul deeply.

We welcome one and all to come along and experience a magical music offering so more people can benefit from the unique and very special gift Samjjana brings to Costa Rica.
